Champions League Highlights – Inter edged Atletico as Dortmund held by PSV
Arsenal thought they could benefit from a defensive Porto at Dragao. Still, an injury-time winner by Wenderson Galeno opened a party for the home fans.
Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen also scored a late leveler to cancel out Robert Lewandowski’s opener, making the return legs in Spain very exciting.
Porto 1-0 Arsenal
The Gunners arrived at Portugal with a five-match winning streak in which they banged 21 goals, but the same attackers needed help to create something significant against a solid home side.
Mikel Arteta’s side dominated in the first leg of the Last-16 Champions League tie, with set pieces expected to be a lethal weapon. While the visitors could not break through, Porto hit back with a stoppage-time banger.
Galeno struck a sensational hit from 25 yards and grabbed a crucial winner as his side secured a 1-0 victory to set up a return leg at Emirates three weeks later.
Arsenal will return to Premier League action at home to Newcastle on Saturday, with the second leg of this tie at London set for March 12.
If you are a Gunners, look away for this stat: Arsenal have not lost five consecutive UCL knockout state matches since 2016….
Napoli 1-1 Barcelona
A draw is a deserved result for both sides as the two current finest strikers of the football world scored in the clash at Naples.
Both Napoli and Barca have struggled this season with their defending champions projects. Serie A reigning champions Napoli were fresh from the dismissal of head coach Walter Mazzarri only a few days ahead of the clash.
Their new life under new coach Francesco Calzona did not start comfortably as the Catalan visitors pressed from the start.
The host, however, stood still until the hour mark when Robert Lewandowski sublimely scored his 93rd career goal in the elite competition.
However, Barca couldn’t kill the game, and Victor Osimhen equalized from Frank Anguissa’s pass on 75 minutes.
The return leg on March 12 in Barcelona is well-poised after a draw that will not displease either side.
