MAXWELL TAKES IPL LEAVE TO ‘GET MY BODY RIGHT’

Maxwell asked his team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to leave him out in its next IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The 35-year-old Australian cricketer cited the physical and mental toll of playing for RCB amidst his struggles early this season.

There were also speculations that Maxwell may have been nursing a thumb injury.

“I think now is actually a good time for me to give myself a bit of a mental and physical break, get my body right,” he said.

“I can hopefully get back into a really solid mental and physical space where I can still have an impact,” Maxwell added.

MAXWELL’S NUMBERS DOWN EARLY IN IPL 2024

Maxwell is not getting a lot of runs early into the IPL 2024 season,

The RCB all-rounder had only 32 runs in six innings at an average of 5.33.

These numbers contrasted the 552 runs and a 42.46 average in 17 T20s appearances just before IPL 2024.

Maxwell asked Fat du Plessis and the other coaches and asked for them to get someone else.

“T20 cricket can be like that sometimes – it’s a pretty fickle game,” he said.

“Even if you look at the first game, I ran one off the middle of the bat to the keeper.”

MAXWELL IN SIMILAR SCENARIO WITH KINGS XI PUNJAB

Maxwell’s current situation with RCB mirrors a similar situation he had with Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020.

Back then, Maxwell tallied only 108 runs in 11 innings at an average of 15.42 and a strike rate of 101.88.

“So I said the same thing to the Kings XI management back at the time, that we can have an overseas bowler in my place,” the Australian said.

“But we didn’t have an offspinner as well. So I sort of played as an overseas offspinner who could bat a little bit,” he added.
