O’ROURKE TO MISS AT LEAST TWO WEEKS

The 22-year-old English-born cricketer will need at least two weeks to recover from the left hamstring injury he sustained on Saturday. O’Rourke made his Test debut last month before getting sidelined by the injury, New Zealand Cricket confirmed.

Uncapped pace-bowler Ben Sears has been tapped to replace O’Rourke.

“It’s disappointing for Will to be ruled out, especially after making such a strong start to his international career,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead said. Ben’s a young bowler with a quality skill set.”

“He bowls with genuine pace and gets good bounce which is always a great asset in red-ball cricket,” the coach added.

NZ HOPES TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER INITIAL LOSS

New Zealand is determined to bounce back without O’Rourke after Australia took a 172-run victory in the first Test in Wellington.

O’Rourke took nine wickets in his Test debut in New Zealand’s home win over South Africa last month.

Meanwhile, Black Caps opener Devon Conway joined O’Rourke on the sidelines after he underwent surgery for his thumb injury in NZ’s 3-0 loss to Australia in the Twenty20 series.
