In a shocking instance of racism, a banana was thrown at Richarlison during Brazil’s game against Tunisia.
The banana was thrown after he scored his side’s second goal in the friendly and celebrated by running towards the corner flag at Paris Saint-Germain’s Parc des Princes stadium.
This act was slammed by the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF).
A statement issued by CBF read: “After Brazil’s second goal, a banana was thrown towards Richarlison.”
“Whether on or off the field, attitudes like this cannot be tolerated.”
President Ednaldo Rodrigues added: “Once again, I publicly express my rejection.”
“This time I saw it with my own eyes. This shocks us. We must always remember that we are all the same, regardless of colour, race or religion.”
“The fight against racism is not a cause, but a fundamental change to wipe this type of crime from the planet. I insist on saying that the punishments need to be more severe.”
The incident with Richarlison followed Brazil’s players holding a banner pre-match which read: “Without our black players, we wouldn’t have stars on our shirts.”
Brazil won the game 5-1.
Raphinha scored twice, Neymar hit a penalty with Pedro and Richarlison scoring one goal apiece.
