Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s bad luck with injuries continue.
He had incurred a thumb injury in the ODI series and had to miss the first Test versus Bangladesh.
KL Rahul had taken over the captaincy mantle in Rohit’s absence.
As per latest reports, Rohit’s injury still hasn’t healed completely and this may force him to sit out of the second Test as well.
In fact, the BCCI confirmed of Rohit’s absence from the second Test.
“Rohit Sharma is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team following his left thumb injury, which he sustained during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka,” BCCI said in a release.
“The Medical Team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can bat and field with full intensity.”
“He will continue his rehab and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh.”
Unfortunately, even Indian pacer Navdeep Saini has joined the injury list.
“Navdeep Saini is also ruled out of the second Test owing to an abdominal muscle strain. The fast bowler will now report to the NCA for further management of his injury.” the BCCI release stated.
Even the Bangladesh Tigers have been ravaged by injury issues.
The biggest blow to Bangladesh is the potential loss of Shakib al Hasan as a bowler.
Shakib, the captain, may not be fit enough to bowl in the second Test in Dhaka.
In the first innings of the first Test in Chattogram, Shakib only bowled 12 overs, while he did not bowl in the second.
In his place, left arm spinner Nasum Ahmed has been drafted into the squad.
Pacer Ebadot Hossain, who didn’t bowl in the second innings of the first Test will be another notable absentee.
Bangladesh’s batting line-up continues to be weak, owing to the absence of Tamim Iqbal and batter Anamul Haque’s loss of form.
Bangladesh will be desperate to bounce back after a crushing 188 run defeat in the first Test.
On the other hand, India will seek to wrap the series 2-0 and improve its standing in the World Test Championship standings. Table.
