HARRY BROOK HAS QUALITIES TO SURPASS ROOT, PIETERSEN: ANDERSON
Harry Brook has all the qualities to surpass, if not equal, Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen as the all-time greats in England, says legendary pacer James Anderson.
Furthermore, Brook starred in England’s 47-run win over Pakistan in their recent Test series in Multan after recording a triple hundred (317 off 322).
Additionally, the 25-year-old West Yorkshire native scored a double century (262) in the same Test, which ran his overall tally to 12,664 runs.
That moved him to fifth place on the all-time list.
Moreover, Root’s latest exploits were enough to convince Anderson to compare the former to the likes of Root and Pietersen.
ANDERSON BELIEVES HARRY ‘JUST GOT EVERYTHING’
Moreover, Anderson believes Brook “just got everything” to surpass what Root and Pietersen had accomplished.
“He’s on the way to being in the top three that I’ve played with,” Anderson told that “Tailenders” podcast.
“It’s Root, Pietersen, and him. He’s definitely got all the attributes to overtake them,” he added.
Anderson, who retired from international cricket in July, finished his Test career with 704 wickets from 188 matches for third place overall.
The retired cricketer believes Brook can still accomplish more “early in his Test career,” giving him enough time to overtake Root’s and Pietersen’s numbers.
“He (Brook) can destroy an attack if he wants to, and he can play longer innings if he needs to,” Anderson said.
“But he’s got the shots of both Root and Pietersen. The thing that’s really similar between Root and Brook is that they love batting,” he added.
BROOK-ROOT PARTNERSHIP LETHAL IN FRIDAY’S TEST AGAINST PAKISTAN
Furthermore, the Brook-Root partnership was lethal in Friday’s Test against Pakistan.
Brook’s 317 was followed by Root’s record-setting 262 in England’s 823-7 declared, which gave the visitors a 267-run lead.
Anderson admits Root is the more experienced batter, but he can learn things from the younger Brook and vice-versa.
“As much as Brook’s the younger player and will be learning loads from Rooty, I still think Rooty learns from him as well,” Anderson said.
“They literally couldn’t care less what format it is. They just want to bat,” he added.
“He’s on the way to being
