AFGHANISTAN ADVANCES IN T20 WORLD CUP 2024 BY BEATING PNG

Afghanistan advanced in the Super Eight of the T20 World Cup 2024 after beating Papua New Guinea by seven wickets.

Furthermore, Guibadin Naib stayed unbeaten on 49, as Afghanistan tallied 29 balls to spare to complete the win.

The result means New Zealand is eliminated from the tournament for the first time since 2014.

Afghanistan finished with six points and a 4.230 net run rate to lead Group C.

PNG lost five wickets inside the powerplay, while a total of four run-outs did not help the team’s cause.

ENGLAND STAYS ALIVE AFTER DUMPING OMAN

England stayed alive from Super Eight contention after beating Oman by eight wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday.

The winners limited Oman to just 47 rounds before chasing down the target in only 3.1 overs to churn out the victory.

Furthermore, England skipper Jos Buttler had an unbeaten knock of 24 runs from eight balls and a strike rate of 300.00 to lead his team’s attack.

“The tone was set very well by the bowlers by picking up those early wickets and restricting them to that total,” Buttler said.

“I thought they bowled brilliantly. There was some extra bounce, thought they bowled really good lines and lengths,” he added.

RAIN-FREE THURSDAY BOOSTS USA, PAKISTAN MATCHES

Dry weather in the first half of Thursday boosted chances for Florida to stage matches.

Hosts the United States and Pakistan, as well as Ireland and Canada are scheduled to hold matches there.

Players raised optimism after Fort Lauderdale remained dry until late Thursday afternoon.

Ireland allrounder Mark Adair remains hopeful the weather will hold up as three Group A matches are set.

“I don’t think there was too many people who came to leave the hotel, but no, at the ground today it was actually remarkably dry,” Adair said.

The USA needs to beat Ireland or get one point from the match to qualify.

Pakistan will need Ireland to beat the USA and for them to defeat Ireland on Sunday to advance.
